For months, Oracle has been quietly working with dozens of regional solution providers to create a portfolio of industry-focused applications for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). Three weeks ago, the software giant took the stage with 25 of those providers to announce the first fruits of their joint effort. Fortunately for JD Edwards customers, many of the new industry offerings are based on EnterpriseOne.
The announcement marks a milestone for an initiative known as Accelerate that Oracle launched in March of this year. Accelerate is Oracle’s strategy to deliver applications that are tailored to the needs of SMB organizations in more than 70 industries. Each Accelerate offering is based on the complete code base of one of Oracle’s four primary enterprise applications: E-Business Suite, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, PeopleSoft Enterprise, or Siebel. Oracle offers these products at steep discounts to its Accelerate partners along with tools to configure the applications to vertical industry requirements. Oracle also provides tools and technologies that reduce the time, resources, and expertise needed to deploy the resulting applications.

Late last month, significant changes took place within the EnterpriseOne development team that works at the JD Edwards campus in Denver and other locations overseas. That is because Oracle asked Lenley Hensarling, Vice President for both EnterpriseOne and World, to form a new team that will develop “cross platform” products and technologies. These offerings will support JD Edwards and all other Applications Unlimited (AU) products as well as Oracle’s upcoming Fusion Applications. By basing the new cross-platform team in Denver, Oracle has given its EnterpriseOne developers a vote of confidence and an opportunity to meet the emerging needs of all of its AU customers. The vendor has also given its customers a sign that it will gradually make its far-flung AU development teams work in a coordinated fashion on a common body of enhancements.
According to sources close to Oracle, the new team will work on technology products that span and enhance the AU product lines — E-Business Suite, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, and Siebel. Initially, the team will work on enhancements to Oracle WebCenter, a suite of web services that delivers a unified, Web 2.0-like interface to both enterprise and portal-based applications. In the near future, the team will work on additional cross-platform products such as Secure Enterprise Search, Database Vault, and Enterprise Manager.

Last week, Oracle sent an email to its customers that included some important information for both EnterpriseOne and World users. Without further ado, here’s what the company had to say.
EnterpriseOne 8.12 Gets an Update. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.12 Update 2 is now generally available. The update contains all Electronic Software Updates (ESUs) and Application Software Updates (ASUs) completed between April 2006 (when Oracle first shipped the release) and May 29, 2007. The update is available through Oracle’s Electronic Product Delivery web site or by contacting your local Customer Care Center.
A Leap Year Reminder for World. All World users should verify that their general accounting fiscal date patterns are set up with 29 days for February 2008 to ensure that transactions are posted correctly. While World’s calendars automatically adjust to the leap year, the fiscal date patterns must be manually adjusted. If you have questions about how to do this, contact Oracle Support at (800) 289-2999.
Speaking of World, remember that the new A9.1 release is now available for download from a password-protected site. If you do not have a login and ID for this site, contact Oracle Support at the number above to get one.
In case you have not noticed it, we’ve added a new section to the JD Edwards Advisor that you will want to check out frequently. It’s our Event Calendar…a place where you can learn about user group meetings, Oracle conferences, and other events of interest to EnterpriseOne and World users. Be sure to check out the new section…and if you happen to be holding JD Edwards-related events, please let me know so that we can post them on our site.
